National League Overview

Hurling

Division 1A

Galway produced a dominant display to sweep aside Kilkenny 0-35 to 0-17, delivering one of the most emphatic wins of their league campaign. A disappointed Kilkenny team will look to show a better account when the sides meet again in the Leinster championship

Limerick took their spot at the top of the league table, defeating Cork who had been unbeaten before that. Aidan O’Connor shone again in an impressive team performance, making him the highest scorer across Division 1A.

Division 1B

Dublin pushed themselves further towards promotion with an emphatic win over Down. The goal hungry Dubs hit six goals, with two courtesy of full forward John Hetherton.

Clare survived a scare from Wexford to keep their unbeaten record in Division 1B alive. Two points from Ian Galvin and a point from Ryan Taylor late in the game was enough to keep Wexford at bay.

Kildare have been the surprise package of the league so far, delivering an impressive 9 point win over Leinster rivals Carlow. The Lilywhites were ruthless in front of goal, hitting the net 3 times over the contest.

Division 2

Kerry produced one of the standout performances of the round against already relegated Mayo, notching 6-24 in a clinical display from the Kingdom.

Laois made it 5 wins from 5 with a 17-point win over Meath in Portlaoise. Scoring 28 points in total, they had 11 different scorers in an excellent team performance.

Westmeath edged a dramatic contest against Derry, despite leading by 9 points at half time, a late Derry surge scared the home side. David Williams goal proved crucial to maintain their promotion hopes.

Division 3

Tyrone delivered a commanding performance to defeat Armagh 3-22 to 0-11. Their clinical finishing, 3 goals through Aidy Kelly, Kiefer Morgan and Turlough Mullin put a stamp on their win.

Wicklow produced a strong display to overcome Donegal 0-21 to 0-14, this handed Donegal their first defeat of the campaign and mounts pressure on their promotion hopes.

Roscommon started strong against Fermanagh but almost let their lead slip with a late comeback from the Fermanagh men. Late goals from Danann McKeough and Sean Corrigan put the Rossies under pressure but they ground out the win.

Division 4

Sligo sealed their promotion in devasting fashion, hitting Cavan for 8 goals in a ruthless display.

Leitrim showed a powerful attacking display against Lancashire, with talisman Daniel Miller finishing with 1-09 to his name.

Warwickshire fought hard to gain a point in their game against Longford against the odds. With many expecting promotion hopefuls Longford to win, the Birmingham based side almost took all the points if not for a late Martin Farrell point.

League of Ireland Soccer

Shamrock Rovers secured a narrow but important 1-0 victory over Derry City, with a late penalty to decide the contest, Derry will be looking to bounce back from 2 defeats.

Galway United and Dundalk shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw, with both sides trading goals in a lively encounter. Despite chances at either end, neither team could find a decisive winner.

Bohemians edged past Waterford with a hard-fought 1-0 victory, maintain their unbeaten start at the top of the league. Sam Todd got the goal and his first for the club since moving in January.

St Patrick’s Athletic came out on top in a dramatic contest against Shelbourne, winning in stoppage time for the second game in a row. Max Mata got on the end of a corner to head home the winner for Pats.

Six Nations Rugby

Ireland claimed a convincing 27–17 win over Wales in the Six Nations, delivering a strong all-round performance to take control of the contest. Clinical finishing and sustained pressure allowed Ireland to build a healthy lead, and although Wales responded with a late push, Ireland managed the game well to see out the victory. The result keeps their championship hopes firmly on track heading into the final stages of the tournament.
