With strong influences from both Liverpool and Watford, the clubs where he spent most of his career, the shirt tells the story of his journey in football. During his time at Liverpool, he secured two First Division league titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and three Charity Shields. He was twice named Footballer of the Year and honoured as PFA Players’ Player of the Year. He also broke barriers as a pioneering Black player in English football, rising above racial abuse and inspiring future generations.

This custom football shirt is full of personal touches. John’s actual signature is featured on the lower back hem. An iconic FA Cup goal celebration is depicted, where he assisted Liverpool legend Ian Rush against Everton, alongside another image of Barnes representing England just beneath it.

Design details also pay homage to his club career. Stripes from Liverpool’s 1987 shirt, the season of his debut, are incorporated into the jersey. From his Watford days, the famous band across the front is included, representing the club that shaped his early career and remained close to his heart.

The crest was designed exclusively for John, incorporating his initials, goals, and appearances into a one-of-a-kind crest placed on the left breast. On the lower back sits his favourite quote: “If you fail to prepare, be prepared to fail”. The upper back proudly lists his honours, cementing this custom football shirt as both a tribute and a legacy piece.
