GAA 

Connacht Football Championship 

Moycullen booked themselves a showdown with St Brigids in the Connacht senior football final after dispatching Leitrim GaelsAnother top performance from marksman Dessie Conneely was enough to see the Galway champions through unscathed in their hunt for a provincial title. 

St Brigid’s defeated Ballina Stephenites in an impressive display of scoring, 1-21 coming from 11 different players showcasing their spread of attacking threat. Themselves and Moycullen have proven the strongest seeds in the provincial championship, setting up an interesting final. 

Leinster Football Championship 

Athy progressed to the semi-finals of the Leinster football championship in their win over Summerhill. On a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-09 they had room to spare in a strong team performance. Kevin Feely stood out, with the Kildare veteran commanding at midfield and contributing 0-3. 

Portarlington defeated Naomh Mairtin in their quarter final clash at the Integral GAA Grounds. A leading performance from full forward Darragh Galvin was the difference in the side, scoring 0-4 and causing havoc for the Louth champions throughout. 

Dublin champions Ballyboden St Enda’s started strong in their pursuit of provincial success in their win against Castletown Liam Mellows of Wexford. County stars Ross McGarry and Colm Basquel starred in their performance, combining to score 1-09. 

Despite racing into a 9-point lead, Tullamore had to fend off a late comeback attempt from Westmeath champions The Downs to progress in their Leinster championship bid. A late goal from Charlie Drumm and two injury time 2 pointers from Taileann cup top score Luke Loughlin weren’t enough to make up the lead Tullamore had built. 

Ulster Hurling Championship 

Antrim champions St Johns finished strongly to defeat Donegal’s Setanta in a game where the Johnnies were heavily favoured. Setanta fought hard in the early stages, only trailing by 5 at the half, but St Johns rallied in the second half, with 2 goals coming from Antrim star Conor Johnson and the accuracy of free-taker Oisin McManus who landed 0-12 in total. 

Reigning Ulster champions Slaughtneil maintained their defence fending off Portaferry at the Athletic Grounds. With 5 points to spare, Shea Cassidy stood out with a tally of 0-11 for the Derry champions. 

 

Munster Hurling Championship 

Ballygunnar dispatched of Cork champions Sarsfields in style as they progressed to the final of the Munster hurling championship. All Ireland champions in 2022, The Gunnars put themselves back in the conversation with a clinical display, 2-01 from Dessie Hutchinson and 0-10 from ever reliable Pauric Mahony saw them safe passage to the final. 

Dual champions Éire Óg needed extra time to defeat Loughmore-Castleiney and see their amazing season continue in both codes. An excellent display from Hurler of the Year John McGrath wasn’t enough to get his side over the line, as the determined Clare men showed resilience to reach their first provincial final in 35 years. 

Munster Football Championship 

Cork champions St Finbarr’s had to fight hard to get past Clonmel Commericials in an entertaining quarter final clash. Marksman Stephen Sherlock showed his class totalling 0-09 over the hour. 

LGFA 

Ulster Football Championship Final 

St Ergnat’s Moneyglass claimed their first ever Ulster senior title with an excellent display against Errigal Ciaran. Experienced forward Cathy Casey shone from the start, scoring 1-04 in all. The game would finish with a dramatic penalty, which was saved by goalkeeper Aine Devlin and started emotional celebrations for the Moneyglass ladies. 

Rugby 

Ireland produced a commanding performance to record their biggest ever win over Australia, defeating the Wallabies by 27 point. A hattrick of tries from Mack Hansen gave the Irish a lead to build upon in their Autumn Series. 

International Soccer 

An incredible week for Troy Parrott and Ireland capped off with a 3-2 win over Hungary to secure a place in the play off with a chance to qualify for the World Cup. After their amazing victory over Portugal last week the Irish side saw themselves trailing 2-1 at the half. A second goal for Parrott levelled the game, before an scored a goal in the last seconds of the game to complete his hattrick and give the Irish a chance at getting to their first World Cup since 2002.
