World Cup Qualifiers
Ireland’s World Cup qualification hopes were dashed in heartbreaking fashion as they fell to Czechia on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw in Prague. A strong start saw the Boys in Green take control through Troy Parrott’s penalty and a Matej Kovar own goal, but late goals from the hosts forced extra time and ultimately a shootout. Despite early composure from the spot and a save from Caoimhín Kelleher, missed penalties from Finn Azaz and Alan Browne proved costly, with Jan Kliment converting the decisive kick to send Czechia through and leave Ireland facing an unwanted friendly instead of a play-off final.
