    Ulster Hurling Championship  

    Derry champions Slaughtneil claimed back-to-back Ulster hurling titles following their 13-point win over St Johns. St Johns, competing in their first Ulster final in 52 years, started aggressively and held the reigning champions to a slow start. It took until midway through the second half for Slaughtneil to pull clear, with the excellence of Cormac O’Doherty they stretched the lead to double digits in the last 10 minutes.

    Experienced Ulster contenders Kilcoo showed their nerve in a clinical second half performance to outlast Fermanagh champions Erne Gaels. Leading by 3 at half time, the Down champions attacked the Fermanagh side in numbers, turning over kickouts and punishing with goals from Ceilum Doherty, Eugene Branagan, Paul Devlin and Shealan Johnston.

    Mungret St Paul’s were crowned Limerick senior football champions for the first time in an upset over heavily favoured Newcastle West. The underdogs never took the challenge laying down, having led at half time and pushed on to a great second half display. The Limerick champions will earn a chance at Kerry champions Dingle now in the Munster championship.

    2024 All Ireland finalists St Brigid’s were crowned champions in Roscommon, needing a replay to defeat last years champions Padraig Pearses. Their big players stepped to the fore with Ben O’Carroll scoring 0-5 and county goalkeeper Conor Carroll putting in a man of the match performance.

Having trailed by 2 points going into injury time, a 2-point score levelled the game courtesy of Conor Horgan. With the game poised to enter extra time, substitute Cillian Myers Murray was the hero as he kicked the winning point.
