    AMHRÁN NA BHFIANN JERSEY

    Written originally in 1907, The Soldier’s Song was sung in the GPO during the 1916 Rising, its rousing words helped keep morale high as the battle raged. Again after the Rising in the camps, the song gave voice to a sense of Irishness and freedom among the men and women that had been imprisoned.

    The Anthem was adopted by the Government in 1926 but it was during the 1930s that efforts to promote the Irish language in everyday life and at sports events and other special occasions ensured that Liam Ó Rinn's translation gained popularity throughout the nation. To this day, Amhrán na bhFiann is indelibly associated with Irish teams and our love of sport.
