Written originally in 1907, The Soldier’s Song was sung in the GPO during the 1916 Rising, its rousing words helped keep morale high as the battle raged. Again after the Rising in the camps, the song gave voice to a sense of Irishness and freedom among the men and women that had been imprisoned.
