Brumbies All Set for Sharks Showdown on Saturday

The Super Rugby Finals stage returns to Canberra this weekend as the Plus500 Brumbies take on the Sharks from South Africa at home at the GIO Stadium in a Quarter Final clash.

The match will kick off at 8:05pm.

If the Brumbies are successful in overcoming the Sharks and if the Jaguares defeat the Chiefs in Buenos Aires, the Brumbies will travel to Argentina for a semi final the following weekend. If the Chiefs are successful the New Zealanders will play the Brumbies at GIO Stadium.

Last weekend saw the Plus500 Brumbies end their regular Super Rugby season with their seventh straight victory at GIO Stadium against the Reds.

As their last game of the year before finals, the Brumbies also had the boost of sealing the bonus-point victory winning 40-27. It’s fair to say the Red made the Brumbies fight hard in the second half to take the win.

Coach Dan McKellar said afterwards, “I’m happy with the win. I’m happy we came through unscathed as well. We were a bit frantic with our last action at times and created a lot of good opportunities for them and they took advantage of that.”

“How we regained composure and control and went into half time 19-10 up were really good signs.  We’re going to face a lot of pressure in the next few weeks and we’ve got to be able to handle it and throw a couple of counter punches.”

“I think we’ve had confidence and belief for a while now. You see that in moments like we had tonight, where we were under the pump with the Reds.”

”We’re really proud of the position we’ve put ourselves in, but we’ve got to keep going about the day to day process and getting our preparation right. There’s no ladder now, it’s all back to square one so we’ve got to front up on Saturday evening next week.”

Looking ahead to the quarter final match against the Sharks this Saturday McKellen told the Brumbies in house web report, “I think our games in good shape, I think our defence and set piece are also good. I think we’re taking our opportunities in attack and creating plenty of opportunities in attack.

“At times we were impatient tonight but it’s nice to see our boys in space so it’s pleasing to have those areas of our game humming along because it’s going to be important in the next few weeks.”

The Brumbies haven’t lost a match at home since February. Skipper Christian Lealiifano will win his 149th Super Rugby cap, his 47th in total as captain.

As Official Brumbies kit suppliers we send them our congratulations on winning the Australian Conference of the Super Rugby league, and finishing third overall in all the conferences. And of course lets home they sink the Sharks on Saturday. The Kick Off is 8pm Australian time/11am Irish time
