Anyone Got a Spare Ticket?

A week is a long time in the GAA. Especially All Ireland Final week. Means one thing. Tickets. If you're from Dublin or Mayo and you meet people walking about with a smug semi permanent grin on their face you know they're sorted. Are you sorted? If you’re a committed Gael from either of the counties, hopefully the smugness is on your own face. But sometimes the sweat can be on right up until late on Saturday night. We’ve all been there, meeting some lad outside the Burlington or at the corner of James Gill’s pub.

If you’re feeling the heat, here’s our desperado ticket guide. We can’t promise you anything though.

Enter the club draw

So obvious it's simple. Pay your membership and get your name in the hat. And your ma's, the husband or wife or partner, and any children. And your dad? Why not. If you’re not in you can't win. Rumour has it some people still pay memberships for deceased relatives decades long gone so they can still use their lotto numbers and apply for tickets.

Think outside the box

Do you know anyone in one of the International county boards? Maybe a hurler in Ulan Bator or an Uzbek Baller? Give them a shout in case their club has been allocated a ticket or two. Overseas get allocated a few hundred tickets and there’s always someone flying home.

Mr President. A Ticket for Mise?

Do you know an ex Uachtarán or two? Between them they get an allocation of tickets so if you maybe wash their car, or trim the presidential hair or tailor the suits, he might throw you a ticket if nicely asked.

Ask the ladies associations

Not many people know this but Camogie and ladies football get a supply of a few hundred tickets. No doubt the tickets are used to help sponsors and those that have helped support the women’s games over the year. Still if you’ve friends in high places, pop the questions.

Ditto Rounders and Handball

Rounders and handball are two of our association’s games and they also get a ticket allocation to mark their contribution to the GAA. If there’s a Rounders club near you, give them a shout. Better still take up the game.

GAA Season Ticket Holders

If you are GAA season ticket holder and you have attended 60% or more of the total number of matches your county played in the League & Championship in 2016, then you shall go to the ball! If your County qualifies for the All-Ireland final, Club+ Season Ticket holders qualify for an All-Ireland Final ticket regardless of their attendance rate during the season - this only applies to the selected code of the GAA Season Ticket.

Go Corporate

I know one lad who never missed a Tyrone game in 2005 in Croke Park. He spent the days relaxing up in a corporate box with one of our large media organizations enjoying prawn sandwiches and the occasional libation. If you have the contacts through work, sometimes you just gotta be shameless about it. Any oul chance?

Hopefully by the time you read this you’ll be sorted. Enjoy the game, may the best team win. Anyone for the last few choc ices?
