The
modern and stylish O’Neills Sportswear brand has developed
from very humble beginnings.
Founded in 1918 by Mr Charles O’Neill, the small company,
based in Dublin’s Capel Street, specialised in the manufacture
of Footballs and Hurling Balls. O’Neills Sportswear introduced
the now standard white ball – a process of innovation which
continued as the company brought vision and quality to the production
of an entire range of Gaelic sportswear and accessories.
In 1955, following his death, Charles O’Neill’s son,
Paul, took control of the growing company. It was his dream to develop
a higher standard for the image of Irish national sports. He introduced
new and exciting styles – all based on traditional garments
worn across the country. New knitting and dyeing machinery was introduced
and, as demand grew steadily in the 1980’s, the company moved
to the larger premises at Walkinstown Avenue in Dublin. “The
House of Sport” remains the home of the company’s Head
Office.
O’Neills has had to respond to the massive surge in demand
for quality Gaelic team wear in recent years. New styles, designs
and products are requested and met every year. Our expertise in
innovation of design has been introduced to rugby, soccer, hockey,
boxing and a wide range other sports and leisurewear users.
O’Neills now has established sales offices in Dublin, London
and Belfast, as well as a second production plant in Strabane, Co.
Tyrone. State of the art technology in both design and production
ensure that O’Neills Sportswear remains true to the vision
of Paul O’Neill. Living up to his dream has become evermore
challenging.
